Therapy For Teens

Adolescence can be confusing, intense, and hard to put into words. Some teens withdraw. Some become angry or reactive. Some seem fine on the outside while carrying anxiety, sadness, shame, or pressure internally.

My goal is to offer a space where teens don’t feel judged, lectured, or analyzed from a distance. Therapy gives you room to slow down, understand yourself, and build healthier ways of dealing with emotions, relationships, and stress. I want to support you in getting what you want. I have no agenda other than to support you in creating a life you feel good about.

I take a depth-oriented, relational approach to teen therapy. That means I am interested not only in symptoms, but in what those symptoms may be expressing. Many therapist focus only on symptom reduction and ignore the root of the issue. This leads to temporary relief, but long term issues. Anxiety, anger, shutdown, or avoidance often make more sense when we address the emotional patterns underneath them.

My approach is two-pronged - addressing symptom relief and long term change. Depending on your teen’s needs, I may draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, psychodynamic therapy, mindfulness-informed work, and practical emotion-regulation skills found in DBT. The work is collaborative, respectful, and paced according to what your teen is ready for.

Parents matter in the therapy process, especially with teens. At the same time, teens need enough privacy to speak honestly and build trust.

I typically involve parents in a way that supports the teen without making therapy feel like another place where they are being monitored or corrected. We can discuss concerns, goals, and patterns while still protecting the teen’s need for a private therapeutic space.
